Sumi is half Japanese, half Chinese and was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. At thirteen years old, Sumi and her family moved to Singapore. At fifteen years old, Sumi moved to the U.S. to attend boarding school at Walnut Hill School for the Arts in Massachussetts to further her training in Musical Theater. She continued her collegiate training at the prestigious Elon University in North Carolina where she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2015. Sumi is represented by her manager Rochel Saks at SAKS& and her agents at The Mine. Sumi works full-time as a professional actress both on stage and on TV/Film. In New York City she has performed at many prestigious theaters including Lincoln Center Theater and New York City Center. Sumi currently resides in New York City and is a proud member of AEA and SAG-AFTRA. Sumi obtained her group fitness instructor certification through AFAA in 2018 and her 500-Hour Yoga Teacher Training through CorePower Yoga.
